66. Tell us about something in your closet that you keep but never wear. What is it, why don’t you wear it, and why do you keep it?
My wedding dress. Obviously sentimental...I bought a style that I could transform into a wearable special occasion piece, but I can't decide if I want to alter it or donate it.
Gosh, I have several dresses I have for "when I'm skinny," and can't fit into them yet.
Bright orange wool jersey coat that I bought in a vintage shop. It has a tailors label and is just beautifully cut. It must've been custom made for some one my height.
A beautiful little black cocktail dress that is just one size too small. It is so flattering and classy. I can still get in it, but it's not comfortable or right on me. I keep it because I hope to fit in it again! I got rid of all my other dresses that didn't fit a year ago, but I didn't have the heart to get rid of this one.
I have a velvet kimono that my mother gave me but my husband absolutely hates it. I keep it because it reminds me of my mom.
a hippy denim-chiffon skirt. because it was one of the first things I bought after I lost weight and it seemed fabulous but i could't pair it with anything.
a griege ( gray/biege the color of a clam)sequined blazer. i paid a lot for it at a yard sale so i couldn't really try it on.- the sequins on the collar scratch my neck. i can only wear it with a turtle neck and that limits the use. i keep it because once a year i trot it out for a christmas party but it's not a cheerful color. it was a mistake
The jacket my grandmother wore to my parents wedding in 1948 - she was tiny so it is hasn't ever fitted me!
My wedding dress. It's so beautiful, i just can't let it go. But really, where/when would I ever wear it again?
Some uncomfortable 4-inch gold heels. I save them for costumes or Halloween. I can wear them for a few hours, but it's not something I wear on the regular. I maybe wear them once or twice a year.
the 1950's swimsuit. It's amazing & I look like Marilyn in it. It's navy pinstripe with buttons on the hips & I'll never get rid of it. It's wearable, but actually wearing it swimming would result in it's death & it's too lovely to destroy.
a white long shirt. Liked it, but it never gets hot enough to wear it. Wore it once in Spain.
a vintage linen dress with a pearl collar. I've kept it because one day I might have a place to wear it to.
I keep an old green and pink embroidered blazer with wooden buttons. It's the wrong size and doesn't fit my current sense of style, but it's beautiful.
If I haven't worn something in the last 6 months, I donate it
Vintage ball gown from the 70s. Bought it to wear to a gala and wore something else instead. Still might find an occasion.
I'm pretty ruthless about getting rid of items that have fallen out of rotation. The store from which I purchase my clothes donates give-backs to a shelter for abused women getting back into the workplace, which is nice. Oh - I did keep one pair of favorite pants, a size down. When I fit back into them, I WIN!
