39. What, for you, is the difference between dressing and dressing up?
Dressing up implies that one is going somewhere somewhat more formal. So I have "formal" jeans & "informal jeans". lol I do put on something a bit more refined when 'dressing up', but still maintain that ol' Hippie in me. I'm not here to impress anyone. I go out to enjoy myself.
I can dress for everyday and then for special occasions I can put on a dress and hoping that I look good in it.
Dressing up is wearing clothing that is appropriate in a formal setting.
Dressing up is also cosplay and dressing for fun.
I distinguish one as "adult cosplay" and the other as "everyday wear"
I dress up during the day. Evening wear comes infrequently for me and I LIVE for it. It's time to break out the faux fur stole and nude pumps. Same makeup.
Dressing is something that I do every day. Dressing up is something that I do for special occasions. I don't dress up very often, because I have always prided myself on dressing in such a manner that I would look presentable at most occasions (maybe just not a wedding or a flash party!)
Dressing is looking presentable for every day, like work or the weekend. Dressing up is wearing a cocktail dress and heels, and swapping out my Filson cross body bag for a clutch that holds practically nothing.
Dressing up is fun but it also means discomfort--either physical or not having my notebook when something occurs to me that I must write down.
Dressing up is also me, but more glamorous. I can do glamour and not feel ridiculous, and I love to look pretty. But I thank my lucky stars that I do not have to perform the glamour role every day in order to meet my baseline. That would be exhausting.
